Terms

Who can use this

You must be at least 13 to have an account. Thyme to Cook is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect anything from them. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, write to [email protected] and it will be deleted.

If you are old enough to use the app but not old enough to enter a contract where you live, an adult responsible for you has to agree to these terms with you.

Your recipes are yours

You keep every right you had in what you put into Thyme to Cook. Using the app grants no ownership of your content and no licence to republish it. You can export all of it, or delete all of it, at any time, without asking.

Recipes from elsewhere

Importing keeps a link to the original and the creator’s name, because attribution matters and because you will want to find it again. What you import is for your own kitchen. Share links are meant for handing a recipe to a friend, not for republishing someone else’s work at scale.

What the AI is and isn’t

Imports are read by a machine and it gets things wrong: a quantity, a temperature, a step it never heard. Every imported recipe keeps its source so you can check. Nutrition figures are estimates, not dietary advice, and the gluten screening reads the ingredient list, not the packet in your cupboard. Cook with your own judgement.

Objectionable content and abusive behaviour

There is no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users. Recipes, notes, names and anything else you write are yours, but the moment something is shared with another person it is subject to the rules on the support page.

Content that breaks those rules is removed. Accounts that break them are ended, without a refund of any unused subscription, and sexual content involving minors is reported to the authorities.

Every shared recipe carries a Report control, and anyone can be blocked from a cookbook you own. Reports are read by a person, and the response time is published on the support page.

Food safety

Timings, temperatures and the cooking timeline are conveniences, not guarantees. Check that food is properly cooked yourself.

Allergies and dietary flags: read this one

Thyme to Cook can flag recipes against dietary restrictions you record, and suggest what people usually substitute. This is a search of the words in a recipe’s ingredient list. It is not a medical service, a laboratory test, or advice.

It cannot see a manufacturer changing a recipe, a shared fryer or work surface, a product labelled differently in your country, an ingredient the recipe never wrote down, or what is actually in your cupboard. A recipe shown as clear of something may still contain it.

If an allergy is serious, do not rely on this app. Read the labels on what you are actually cooking with, and take medical advice from somebody qualified to give it. Kosher, halal and low-sodium are recorded so the assistant knows about them, and are deliberately not screened at all, because an ingredient list cannot answer those questions.

Subscriptions

Thyme to Cook is free to start. Paid plans add features and cover more people. The price, the length of each plan and the renewal terms are shown in the app before you buy, and by buying you agree to them.

Paid plans renew automatically and keep renewing until you cancel. Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase, and again at each renewal unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends. Cancel any time in your Apple ID subscription settings, on the device. Cancelling stops the next renewal; it does not shorten the period you have already paid for.

We cannot cancel or refund a subscription on your behalf: Apple takes the payment and Apple handles refunds, under their own policy. If an account is ended for breaking the rules above, any unused subscription is not refunded. Cancelling or letting a plan lapse never deletes your recipes: you drop back to the free plan and keep everything you saved.

No warranty

Thyme to Cook is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied. To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free, that any recipe, screening result, substitution, nutrition estimate or assistant answer is accurate or complete, or that defects will be corrected.

It can be unavailable, and it can have bugs. Keep your own copy of anything you would be upset to lose; the export exists for exactly that. Some places do not allow these exclusions, in which case they apply to you only as far as that place allows.

Limits on what we owe you

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Thyme to Cook and anyone working with us will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, loss of goodwill, or the cost of substitute services, arising out of or relating to your use of Thyme to Cook, even if we were told such damages were possible.

Our total liability for all claims relating to Thyme to Cook in any twelve-month period is limited to the greater of the amount you actually paid us in that period or US $100.

Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including, in many places, liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or under consumer-protection laws that give you rights we cannot take away. This applies with full force to the dietary screening. It is a text search over an ingredient list and the section above says plainly what it cannot see.

If you cause us a problem

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Thyme to Cook from any claim, loss, liability or expense (including reasonable legal fees) brought by a third party and arising out of content you upload or share, your breach of these terms, or your misuse of the app. We will tell you promptly about any such claim and you may take over the defence, provided any settlement that admits fault or binds us needs our agreement first.

If something goes wrong

Talk to us first. Before starting any formal proceeding, write to [email protected] describing the problem and what you want. Most things are fixable, and we will try for 60 days before either of us escalates.

About Apple

Thyme to Cook is licensed to you, not sold, under Apple’s standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement, except where these terms say otherwise. That agreement requires us to tell you:

  • This agreement is between you and us, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its contents.
  • Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support for the app.
  • If the app fails to conform to any warranty, you may tell Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price. Beyond that refund, Apple has no other warranty obligation of any kind.
  • Apple is not responsible for addressing any claim about the app — product liability, a failure to meet a legal requirement, or a consumer-protection claim.
  • Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you directly.

If these terms change

We can update these terms. When a change matters (anything affecting your rights, what we charge, or how disputes are handled) we will move the date at the top and tell you in the app or by email at least 30 days before it takes effect. Continuing to use Thyme to Cook after that means you accept the new terms; if you would rather not, delete your account, and the export means you leave with everything you put in.

The rest

If any part of these terms is held unenforceable, the rest stays in force. Not enforcing something once does not waive it. You may not transfer your rights under these terms; we may transfer ours if the app changes hands, and we will tell you if that happens. Together with the privacy page and the community rules, these are the whole agreement.
